Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled’s 14-year sentence under review in high-profile corruption case

The Court of Cassation has scheduled a hearing for May 26 to look into the appeal submitted by former Minister of Interior, Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, who was earlier convicted in two high-profile corruption cases involving the embezzlement of public funds from both the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior.

Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled was handed a 14-year prison sentence, along with a court order to return 10 million Kuwaiti dinars in misappropriated funds. In addition, he was fined 20 million dinars, reflecting the severity of the charges and the court’s stance on public fund violations, according to Al-Rai daily.

The case also involved an Egyptian expatriate, who was convicted as a co-defendant. He was sentenced to four years of imprisonment with hard labor, fined 294,000 Kuwaiti dinars, and ordered to be deported from the country following the completion of his sentence.

The appeal hearing is a critical step in the legal process and will determine whether the verdicts and sentences issued by the lower court will be upheld, modified, or overturned. The case continues to draw public attention due to the high profile of the former minister and the scale of the financial violations involved.
