First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah met on Friday with Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi, President of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), at the organization’s headquarters in Lyon.

In a statement, the Kuwait Ministry of Interior said the meeting focused on enhancing joint efforts to combat organized crime, international smuggling, and cross-border security challenges, in order to bolster regional and global stability.

Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef reaffirmed Kuwait’s longstanding partnership with Interpol since joining the organization in 1965, emphasizing that international security cooperation remains the cornerstone of protecting societies from terrorism and organized crime.

He highlighted Kuwait’s integration with Interpol’s advanced database systems, linking the country’s land, sea, and air ports to facilitate border security and the early detection of stolen or internationally wanted documents.

The minister also pointed to Kuwait’s active contributions to the organization, including seconding officers to serve at Interpol’s General Secretariat in Lyon and the Innovation Center in Singapore, as well as participation in key projects such as the Artificial Intelligence Initiative and the “Silver Bulletin” project for asset recovery. Kuwait also plays a role in several specialized committees, including the Finance and Legal Committees.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on international best practices in combating cybercrime and smuggling, emphasizing the need to develop national expertise and enhance the efficiency of security agencies through knowledge-sharing and training.

The discussions concluded with both parties affirming the importance of continuous coordination and rapid information exchange to counter emerging security threats and safeguard shared interests at the regional and global levels.

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Al-Raisi presented Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef with the organization’s highest-class medal, in recognition of Kuwait’s vital contributions to international security cooperation and its steadfast support for Interpol’s mission.

Fahad Al-Yousef was accompanied by Kuwait’s Ambassador to France, H.E. Abdullah Al-Shaheen.
