Scorching heat, dust storms expected as Indian monsoon depression grips Kuwait

Acting Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali, said Kuwait remains under the influence of an extension of the Indian monsoon depression, bringing with it an intense heatwave and light to moderate northwesterly winds.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Ali stated that extreme temperatures were recorded on Sunday, with Rabiya and Jahra hitting 51°C, while Abdali and Kuwait Airport reached 50°C.
The country is currently experiencing extremely hot daytime conditions, with nighttime temperatures ranging from hot to very hot.
He noted that northwesterly winds will pick up strength starting Monday, becoming moderate to brisk and potentially causing dust storms in open areas. By Wednesday and Thursday, wind speeds are expected to escalate to 22–65 kilometers per hour, significantly affecting visibility and daily activities.
Al-Ali warned that these strong winds will lead to dusty conditions across much of the country, with sea waves rising to over seven feet.
However, a slight drop in temperatures is anticipated beginning Monday evening, with highs forecasted between 46°C and 48°C. The windy and dusty weather is expected to persist until Friday.
He urged the public to stay updated through the Meteorological Department’s official website, mobile app, and social media accounts, as well as the government’s Sahel app, for the latest weather alerts and advisories.
Meanwhile, Meteorologist Issa Ramadan predicted a gradual decline in the country’s high temperatures starting Tuesday, noting that this drop will continue for several days, influenced by dry, gusty winds.
Ramadan explained that today will witness a continuation of the intense heat wave, with temperatures likely to exceed 50 degrees Celsius in areas far from the coast. He noted that the weather will be accompanied by dust in desert areas.
