Saudi Arabia and Qatar sign high-speed train agreement

The planned railway will stretch 785 kilometers, connecting the two capitals through major stops such as Hofuf and Dammam, and linking King Salman International Airport with Hamad International Airport

Saudi Arabia and Qatar have signed an agreement to build a high-speed electric passenger train linking the two countries. With speeds exceeding 300 km/h, the travel time between Riyadh-Doha will be reduced to approximately two hours.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, who headed the Qatari delegation at the eighth meeting of the Joint Coordination Council.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the project represents a major step toward strengthening cooperation and developmental integration between the two nations. It also supports their shared vision for sustainable development and regional prosperity, reports Al-Rai daily.

The planned railway will stretch 785 kilometers, connecting the two capitals through major stops such as Hofuf and Dammam, and linking King Salman International Airport with Hamad International Airport.

SPA added that the train is expected to serve more than 10 million passengers annually, boosting tourism and mobility between the two countries. The project will also create over 30,000 direct and indirect jobs. Construction is scheduled to be completed within six years, following the highest global standards of quality, safety, and smart railway technologies.
