Salmiya Café trendsetter for establishment of popular cafes

The Ministry of Social Affairs, represented by the Social Fund for Popular Cafes, signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Engineer’s Association, to support the fund in performing its societal role, that of developing popular cafes, and providing them with technical, engineering and consulting services.

The Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, said in a press statement following the signing that “the Fund’s Board of Directors, under direct instructions from the Minister of Social Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, who aims to advance the urban development of cafes, by implementing international engineering styles, at the same time retaining the authentic Kuwaiti heritage to reflect the history of each governorate separately and the qualities that distinguish it, to create a cultural, recreational and civilized outlet for all Kuwaiti and expatriate families.”

Al-Ajmi added, “In order for the Ministry of Social Affairs to deliver its services to the new residential areas, it opened small branches of popular cafes in the residential cities of Al-Mutlaa and Sabah Al-Ahmad.”

Al-Ajmi stated “there are five popular cafes distributed across the country’s governorates, and we seek to develop all of them. However, we will start with the Salmiya cafe, and three others will follow in the coming period, namely the Sulaibikhat, Al-Shumaymari and Al-Jahra cafes”.

He pointed out that out of keenness to deliver the ministry’s services to new residential areas, the ministry opened small branches of cafes in the Mutlaa and Sabah Al-Ahmad residential cities, “and during the coming period we will work hard to establish new cafes in these areas as well,” explaining that the budget allocated for developing cafes will be spent from the ministry’s own fund, through the financial investments it achieves from the shops it rents.
