Russia has issued a strong call for Israel to immediately stop its airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and cautioned the United States against becoming involved in the conflict, warning of dire and uncontrollable consequences.
Speaking at a press conference during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated, “Russia calls on Israel to immediately halt airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.” She stressed that Moscow views these attacks, particularly on civilian nuclear sites, as “completely unacceptable,” reports Al-Rai daily.
Zakharova condemned the Israeli actions as a “criminal adventure” that endangers both regional and global stability. She criticized Israel’s justification under the pretext of nuclear nonproliferation, calling it “deeply hypocritical.”
She specifically voiced concern over attacks targeting the Bushehr nuclear power plant, where Russian experts are present, noting that any harm to this facility could have catastrophic consequences. “We express serious concern for the safety of the Bushehr plant and the Russian specialists working there,” she added.
Russia also warned the United States against military involvement in any confrontation with Iran. Zakharova emphasized that such intervention would be “fraught with uncontrollable consequences” and urged Washington to exercise restraint.
Moscow reiterated its demand that Israel cease operations targeting nuclear sites that fall under the safeguards and inspection regime of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Meanwhile, tensions continue to escalate in the region. Just under an hour ago, Iran launched a new wave of missiles toward Israeli targets, further intensifying fears of a broader conflict.
In a separate development, France has appointed a new ambassador to Iran, signaling increased diplomatic engagement amid rising regional instability.
