“Roads Authority” resolves rainwater pooling at United Nations Roundabout and 5th Ring Road
The General Authority for Roads and Land Transport in Kuwait responded swiftly to a rainwater pool that formed this afternoon on the Fifth Ring Road and at the United Nations Roundabout.
The team promptly drained the water once the rain subsided, ensuring that traffic flow was restored without significant delays.
Authority sources informed Al-Jarida that no other significant rainwater pools were reported on the highways. They confirmed that the rainwater drainage networks effectively managed the rainfall, preventing any further pooling of water on the roads.
The sources attributed the smooth management of rainwater to the General Authority for Roads’ proactive maintenance of the rainwater drainage network before the season. This thorough preparation ensured that the system was functioning properly, with no obstacles to hinder the efficient drainage of rainwater.
In a related context, the Meteorology Department reported that the country received a total of 25.90 mm of rainfall. However, some internal areas in the governorates experienced rainwater pools, which led to traffic obstructions in those areas.
For its part, the Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Traffic Department, reported that the rainwater pooling sites addressed on Wednesday afternoon included the intersections of the Third Ring Road with the airport, the Seventh Ring Road with Kabd Road, the United Nations Roundabout, the Kuwait Hospital intersection, the Sabah Al-Salem exit with Fahaheel, the Jahra intersection with Al-Ghazali, and the entrance to Beirut Street.
Additionally, the West Mishref Fire Department Roundabout was affected, which experienced traffic congestion due to the rainwater pools.
The Traffic Awareness Department of the General Traffic Department stated that the Traffic and Operations Sector activated the rain plan and deployed more than 200 security and traffic patrols across various ring roads, main roads, and internal roads during the rainy conditions. This was done to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and provide an immediate response to any traffic accidents or water pools.
The administration added that the Traffic Engineering Department has heightened its readiness to promptly address any malfunctions in traffic lights at main and internal intersections.
Furthermore, the Traffic Operations Department received over 50 reports of water pooling, vehicle breakdowns, and traffic accidents, all of which were handled swiftly and efficiently.
