Real Madrid reduce gap to six points with Catalan rival Barcelona

Real Madrid regained their balance after four lean matches in all competitions (three defeats and a draw), which resulted in continental elimination and falling further behind Barcelona at the top of the Spanish Football League, by defeating their guest Deportivo Alaves 2-1 on Tuesday in the thirty-third round, temporarily reducing the gap to six points with their Catalan rival, the defending champion and leader.

Real Madrid’s goals were scored by Frenchman Kylian Mbappe (30) and Brazilian Vinicius Junior (50), while Alaves’ goal was scored by their striker Toni Martinez (90+3).

Real Madrid increased their points tally to 73, six points behind leaders Barcelona, who have 79 and host Celta Vigo on Wednesday.

In contrast, Alaves’ tally remains frozen at 33 points in 17th place, just above the relegation zone, and they may drop further in the standings pending Elche’s (32 points) match against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
