Ramadan work hours reduced for employees with disabilities

A person with a disability or their caregiver is entitled to a reduction of two working hours per day with pay during the holy month across all government agencies, similar to regular working days.

• Wafaa Al-Muhanna, Director General of the Public Authority for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities, said the reduction in working hours applies to employees with severe, moderate, or minor disabilities, employees caring for individuals with moderate or severe disabilities, and those with custody or guardianship orders caring for individuals with moderate or severe disabilities.

Wafaa Al-Muhanna, Director General of the Public Authority for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities, announced that all ministries have been notified about reducing working hours for employees with disabilities and their caregivers during the holy month of Ramadan, according to Al Rai newspaper.

The authority pointed out that a person with a disability or their caregiver is entitled to a reduction of two working hours per day with pay during Ramadan across all government agencies, similar to regular working days, in accordance with Article 40 of Law No. 8 of 2010 regarding the rights of persons with disabilities.

She explained that this reduction in working hours applies to employees with severe, moderate, or minor disabilities, employees caring for individuals with moderate or severe disabilities, and those with custody or guardianship orders caring for individuals with moderate or severe disabilities.

However, working hours cannot be reduced for two individuals within the same family, except in cases where multiple individuals have disabilities, and it is proven that each is caring for a person with a disability.

Beneficiaries may coordinate with their employers to choose when to reduce their working hours, either at the beginning or the end of their shifts, but splitting the reduction is not allowed. The determination will be made in accordance with the regulations and systems in effect at each government entity and the bodies and institutions under its supervision.
