Qatar shortens working hours for mothers in government jobs

Under the new rules, eligible female employees may leave two hours earlier during the mid-year break, midterm and second-semester exams, and final exams.

The Qatari Council of Ministers has approved reduced working hours for Qatari mothers and mothers of Qatari children to support families and promote work-life balance, Al Qabas newspaper reported.

The Civil Service and Government Development Bureau issued a circular detailing the implementation of the decision. It applies to female employees in government agencies and is based on previous successful initiatives to balance work and family responsibilities.

Under the new rules, eligible female employees may leave two hours earlier during the mid-year break, midterm and second-semester exams, and final exams, reflecting a shift toward more flexible work arrangements.

However, the bureau noted that employees in roles requiring full-day presence are exempt from the early-leave provision.
