Qatar boosts Kuwait’s power supply by 200 megawatts

This increases Kuwait’s total energy import from the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Project to 500 MWs.

  • The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy’s success in securing 500 megawatts from the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Project, from both the Sultanate of Oman and Qatar, would help the ministry overcome the challenges of the summer.

The State of Qatar has granted approval to the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy to provide Kuwait with 200 megawatts in June. This increases Kuwait’s total energy import from the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Project to 500 megawatts, following Oman’s approval for 300 megawatts.

Informed sources told the Al-Rai newspaper, “The ministry received approval from the Gulf Interconnection Authority regarding Qatar’s agreement to supply Kuwait with 200 megawatts during June which can be renewed for the months of July and August, subject to the conditions of the Qatari and Kuwaiti networks.”

The sources confirmed that the ministry’s success in securing 500 megawatts from the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Project, from both the Sultanate of Oman and Qatar, would help the ministry overcome the challenges of the summer.

It is expected that the Gulf Interconnection Authority will sign purchase agreements with the Sultanate of Oman and Qatar in the coming days, according to what was agreed upon between the concerned parties.
