Public Works Ministry processes 2 million cubic meters of wastewater daily

Treated water enhances landscaping, agriculture, and aids in industrial operations across Kuwait

• The Ministry of Public Works’ Sanitation Engineering Sector processes 2 million cubic meters of wastewater daily.

• Treated wastewater is categorized into “tri-treated” and “quad-treated” water.

• Tri-treated water is used for landscaping and along highways. Quad-treated water supports agriculture, food security, and aids industrial operations at facilities.

The Ministry of Public Works has announced that the Sanitation Engineering Sector is successfully processing a substantial 2 million cubic meters of wastewater on a daily basis.

This remarkable feat is the result of a multi-stage treatment process that ensures the highest quality standards, reports Al-Rai newspaper.

“Wastewater treatment undergoes several stages to ensure the highest quality standards and produce 2 million cubic meters of treated water daily,” explained Engineer Ahmad Al-Saleh, the Ministry’s Spokesperson.

Al-Saleh further elaborated on the process, explaining that wastewater collected from across Kuwait is transported to specialized pumping stations.

These stations then initiate a series of treatment stages, culminating in the production of two distinct categories of treated water: tri-treated and quad-treated.

Tri-treated water, as described by Al-Saleh, is utilized for aesthetic enhancement purposes. It is directed to reservoirs under the supervision of the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs (PAAFA) for use in landscaping across the country and along major highways.

Quad-treated water, on the other hand, plays a vital role in supporting Kuwait’s food security and other critical operations. It is supplied to farms in Al-Wafra and Al-Abdali, contributing to agricultural productivity.

Moreover, this high-quality water serves as a cooling agent for essential facilities such as Shadadiyah University and Al-Shaheed Park. The Kuwait Oil Company also utilizes this treated water in its oil extraction operations.
