“Public Works Ministry” launches 8 projects to boost treated water production

According to the directives issued by the Council of Ministers during its weekly meeting, the Ministry of Public Works is preparing to launch eight strategic projects aimed at expanding the production of treated water and enhancing the maintenance of treatment plants.

These initiatives are part of Kuwait’s sustainable development program, which focuses on optimizing the use of treated water. The projects will include the creation of artificial lakes and long waterways, particularly in the Drakeel area and other sites, to preserve wildlife and vegetation. The ministry will also incorporate the latest technology in this field to ensure the effective use of treated water in various regions of the country.

Sources from the Ministry of Public Works, informed Al-Jarida that the ministry produces over one million cubic meters of “triple and quadruple” treated water daily.

This water plays a crucial role in various sectors, including oil production and agriculture. It is used to supply Al-Wafra and Al-Abdali farms with irrigation, supports cooling systems at Al-Shadadiya University, and is provided for use in the country’s natural reserves.

The sources revealed that the Ministry has published a plan in the official newspaper, “Kuwait Today”, outlining eight tenders aimed at carrying out essential maintenance work for the existing treatment plants and their associated infrastructure.

Additionally, the plan includes expanding the production capacity of each plant to increase the output of treated water. These tenders will be offered in the near future, with the goal of beginning implementation promptly.

Oil Sector

The sources explained that the oil sector benefits from treated water for oil production, with the ministry supplying between 45,000 and 60,000 cubic meters per day. This supply is adjusted in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works based on demand. The purpose of establishing these treatment stations is to safeguard Kuwait’s environment by using this water in various productive sectors.

Mother of the Delusion

The sources revealed that one of the largest expansion projects in treated water production is the Umm Al-Hayman station, which was recognized as the best deal signed in the Middle East in 2020. The station currently produces 500,000 cubic meters of treated water per day, with the potential to increase its capacity to 700,000 cubic meters daily.

Moreover, these projects will significantly benefit the industrial and agricultural sectors while also supporting the Kuwaiti environment, which these initiatives aim to protect.

The Ministry is committed to expanding these projects through a comprehensive plan to maximize their utility, in alignment with the directives of the Council of Ministers, and in close coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and Water and other relevant state agencies.
