Princess Diana’s iconic wardrobe to be auctioned in largest-ever fashion sale

Princess Diana’s most iconic fashion pieces — including her dresses, hats, handbags, and shoes — are set to go under the hammer in what is being hailed as the largest auction ever dedicated to the late royal’s personal wardrobe.

Julien’s Auctions, the American auction house behind the event, announced that the live and online sale, titled “Princess Diana’s Style… A Royal Collection,” will take place on June 26 at The Peninsula Beverly Hills in California.

“This is the largest auction in Princess Diana’s history, featuring over 100 personal items from across her extraordinary life and royal career,” said Martin Nolan, CEO and co-founder of Julien’s Auctions, in a statement to Reuters. He also noted that the princess herself had once auctioned over 70 of her dresses in 1997 to raise funds for charitable causes.

Auction Highlights:

  • The “Care Dress” – A 1988 floral silk dress by Belleville Sassoon, worn frequently during Diana’s hospital visits, is expected to sell for $200,000 to $300,000.
  • Gulf Tour Gown – A yellow-on-white embroidered evening gown by Catherine Walker, worn during Diana’s 1986 visit to the Gulf region, is also estimated to fetch a similar amount.
  • Royal Ascot Set – A yellow floral two-piece ensemble by Bruce Oldfield, worn at Royal Ascot in 1987, is expected to garner $100,000 to $200,000.
  • Dior Handbag – Gifted to Diana by former French First Lady Bernadette Chirac in 1995.
  • Wedding Dress Sketch – A rare sketch of the tulle wedding dress worn at her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles.
  • Peach Hat – Worn by Diana at her farewell honeymoon party.

The auction will also include memorabilia from other royal family members, such as the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Julien’s Auctions previously sold one of Diana’s dresses for $1.14 million, underscoring the enduring demand for the late princess’s fashion legacy. A portion of the proceeds from this upcoming sale will be donated to Muscular Dystrophy UK, a charity Diana supported during her lifetime.

A pre-auction exhibition is currently on display in Newbridge, Ireland, and will remain open to the public until June 17.
