  • Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, stated that Kuwait and China agreed to set a mid-October date for the Kabd Station contract and officially began contracting for the third and fourth phases of Abdaliya and Shagaya projects.

His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, affirmed that major economic achievements are expected from the strategic plans and visions underpinning key development projects, which the government aims to implement under the leadership and directives of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, reported Al Rai newspaper.

During a meeting of the ministerial committee tasked with monitoring the implementation of agreements and memoranda of understanding between Kuwait and the People’s Republic of China at Bayan Palace, His Highness the Amir instructed committee members, each within their respective jurisdictions, to coordinate and cooperate with the chairmen of major Chinese state-owned companies nominated by the Chinese government. He emphasized the need to begin signing contracts to carry out construction and building works for the next phase of these development projects.

The meeting focused on the latest developments in implementing the development projects outlined in the memoranda of understanding signed between Kuwait and China. Key areas of cooperation discussed included the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project, electrical energy systems and renewable energy development, low-carbon green waste recycling, housing development, environmental infrastructure for wastewater treatment plants, free and economic zones, and initiatives to combat desertification.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs and member and rapporteur of the Ministerial Committee, Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat, noted that the meeting included presentations of all reports from technical committees within the relevant Kuwaiti ministries overseeing major development projects.

He highlighted that the Kuwaiti and Chinese governments agreed to set a date, through official diplomatic channels, for the Ministry of Public Works to sign a contract with the Chinese state-owned company designated to implement the Kabd Station wastewater treatment project in mid-October.

Ambassador Hayat added that similar procedures will be followed for other major projects once the Chinese government confirms the completion of technical and environmental studies for each project.

He further stated that the Kuwaiti government has informed its Chinese counterpart of the official commencement of contracting procedures with the Chinese state-owned company responsible for implementing the third and fourth phases of the Abdaliya and Shagaya renewable energy projects, marking a significant step forward in bilateral cooperation on sustainable development and infrastructure initiatives.
