Power surge as electrical load hits red, prompts temporary outages
Strategy to manage peak loads and prevent complete blackout

Yesterday, Kuwait’s electrical load index hit a critical level, reaching 12,400 megawatts due to rising temperatures.
In response, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy implemented immediate measures to ease the pressure on the grid, including temporary planned power outages in certain residential, agricultural, and industrial areas.
Affected areas included Omariya, Farwaniya, Hawally, Old Jahra, Sabah Al-Ahmad, Abu Futaira, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, and Mubarak Al-Kabeer.
The ministry clarified that the outages were part of an emergency strategy to manage peak loads and prevent a complete blackout.
Technical teams worked to restore power gradually as the load decreased. The ministry has urged citizens and residents to reduce electricity consumption, especially during peak hours, to help stabilize the grid.
