Portuguese international and Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota tragically passed away early this morning in a devastating car accident in Zamora, Spain, alongside his brother André Silva.
The heartbreaking news has shaken the football world and left his wife, Rute Cardoso, and their family in deep mourning. Just hours before the accident, Rute had shared a touching video of their wedding, which took place only ten days ago, on June 22, where the couple celebrated their love with their three children, reports news agencies.
The tragic accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on the A-52 highway near Cernadilla (mile marker 40.4/km 65). The vehicle carrying Jota and his brother veered off the road, struck an embankment, and caught fire. Witnesses quickly alerted emergency services, but the flames engulfed the car and nearby vegetation, leaving rescuers unable to save them.
Jota, 28, had become a fan favorite at Liverpool for his relentless work ethic and goal-scoring instinct.
