The Portuguese Business Council in Kuwait, in cooperation with the National Council for Culture and Literary Arts, celebrated Portugal National Day on June 10th with a vibrant cultural event, showcasing the rich diversity of Portuguese art and music.

This event, attended by a large number of invitees and art connoisseurs and hosted by the Contemporary Art Platform (CAP), was a resounding success.

The event featured “The Hyperbaroque,” a sculpture exhibition by the Portuguese artist Miguel Rodrigues. It showcased culture that highlighted the depth and diversity of Portuguese arts and music. His works draw inspiration from daily life in Portugal, using the color gold to create an immediate association with luxury, strength, and beauty.

Attendees were also treated to “Loving Minho,” a stunning photographic exhibition by Manuel Correia, showcasing traditional folklore costumes from Northern Portugal.

Correia has exhibited all over the world, photographing people and places in urban and peripheral daily life. In different contexts, he adopts an imaginary nomadic register of distant and disparate peoples and cultures.

The cultural immersion continued with a live concert featuring the melodious sounds of the Braguesa, a traditional Portuguese guitar, expertly played by João Diogo Leitão.

One of the most talented Portuguese guitarists of his generation, Leitão has performed in famous concert halls in Portugal and other countries in Europe and released his first solo album in 2020.

António Campos, President of the Portuguese Business Council, expressed his delight at the event’s success. “It is a huge pleasure to organize this event in partnership with CAP and to see so many familiar and friendly faces in the crowd,” he remarked. “We hope this event serves as a catalyst for more cooperation in artistic partnerships between Portugal and Kuwait, creating a mutual understanding between our two countries.”

Campos also expressed hope that cooperation between Portugal and Kuwait would extend beyond the artistic field to other sectors such as energy, digitalization of industries, and healthcare. He stressed the potential for collaborative efforts in these areas to further strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

The opening event attracted hundreds of attendees, reflecting strong interest and support for cultural exchange between Portugal and Kuwait. The exhibitions will remain on display until July 10th, providing visitors with ample time to explore Portuguese art.

Under the patronage of the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL), two workshops were held at the Museum of Modern Art focusing on photography and sculpture.

Manuel Correia and Miguel Rodrigues addressed full audiences, sharing their experiences as artists and emphasizing the importance of creativity.

The Portuguese Business Council extends heartfelt thanks to its sponsors, UPS, Blue Aviation, Fundação GDA, Hub2Energy, Ventilaqua, Otiima, AGM, and Câmara Municipal de Braga. The council said that their generous support made this celebration possible and helped bring the beauty of Portuguese art and music to Kuwait.

It is noteworthy that this exhibition will continue until Friday, allowing more time for visitors to explore Portuguese art.
