Pope offers prayers for flood victims in South Asia

During the Angelus prayer in Castel Gandolfo’s Freedom Square, Pope Leo expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan, India, and Nepal following devastating floods and landslides that have claimed more than 300 lives.
The Pope prayed “for the victims and their families, and for all those suffering as a result of this calamity,” as heavy rains triggered flash floods in northwest Pakistan, India-administered Kashmir, and Nepal, the Vatican News reports.
Rescue teams in Pakistan reported evacuating more than 3,500 tourists, while over ten villages in the Nuner region were destroyed.
Reiterating his appeal for peace worldwide, Pope Leo urged that negotiations prioritize “the common good of peoples.”
He also highlighted encouraging signs of hope, praising cultural initiatives.
