Friday at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Kuwait, the Philippine Embassy, in collaboration with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), organized a significant event dubbed ‘Bagong Bayani; Serbisyo Karavan.’

This initiative marked a commitment to providing critical services and support to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), showcasing the Philippines’ dedication to its citizens abroad.

The ‘Serbisyo Karavan’ served as a one-stop hub for various essential services aimed at enhancing the lives of OFWs.

Those who attended the event had access to representatives from several key government bodies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Presidential Help Desk, and the Social Security System.

Additionally, services such as the renewal of Philippine driving licenses, consultations with the Land Bank of the Philippines, and support from the National Reintegration Network were all part of the offerings. One of the highlights was the processing and release of the OWWA card, a vital document for OFWs in Kuwait.

The OWWA E-Card stands as a significant tool for Filipino workers abroad. Not merely a card, it is a symbol of membership that grants access to a multitude of OWWA programs and services.

Recognized as a government-issued ID, the OWWA card can be presented at any Migrant Workers Office, embassy, or consulate when assistance is required.

It opens doors to various benefits including welfare programs, training opportunities, initiatives aimed at reintegration into the workforce after their overseas journey and discounts to recognized commercial partners.

As the day ended the event culminated in the grand finals of “Himig ng Bayan,” a singing competition that featured categories for solo, duet, and group.

This competition allowed talented Filipino artists to shine while deepening the sense of community among OFWs. The event also included a vibrant lantern and national costumes contest, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines.

Generous prizes were awarded to the winners, fostering camaraderie and celebration within the community. Raffle draws were held, promising exciting rewards and benefits for the families of OFWs back home.

During her address at the event, Atty. Patricia Yvonne Caunan, OWWA Administrator, reinforced the organization’s commitment to the welfare of Filipino workers abroad, stating, “OWWA will always be your home and our services will be closer, prompt, and concerned.”

Her words reflected the government’s promise that “no OFW will be left behind,” demonstrating an ongoing dedication to support those who contribute significantly to the Philippine economy through remittances and hard work.

The Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Jose Cabrera III, also played a key role in the day’s activities. His presence provided encouragement and highlighted the importance of unity and support for the Filipino community within Kuwait.

Events like the ‘Bagong Bayani; Serbisyo Karavan’ highlight not only the support networks available to OFWs but also serve as a reminder of the vital contributions they make to their home country.

Such initiatives pave the way for enhanced engagement and support among Filipino workers, ensuring their rights and welfare are prioritized while they serve as modern-day heroes of the Philippines.
