Over 27,000 traffic citations issued in nationwide safety crackdown

. . . 63 juveniles caught driving without license

The Traffic and Operations Sector of Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior (MOI) continued its extensive road safety campaign last week, conducting operations across all six governorates.

The intensified efforts resulted in the issuance of 27,100 traffic violations, targeting various infractions such as speeding, signal violations, illegal parking, and the use of mobile phones while driving.

As part of the campaign, 37 reckless drivers were arrested for endangering public safety. Eleven vehicles and six motorcycles were impounded due to serious violations or non-compliance with traffic laws.

Security sources say, a particularly alarming outcome of the campaign was the arrest of 63 underage individuals found driving without valid licenses. These juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution for legal action.

Traffic patrol teams responded to 1,984 incidents throughout the week. These included 139 cases involving injuries, indicating the ongoing risks on Kuwait’s roads. Additionally, 952 collision cases were documented, reflecting the importance of maintaining continuous enforcement and awareness efforts.

The campaign also uncovered a number of non-traffic-related violations. Authorities referred 56 individuals who were wanted for security-related offenses. Another 76 expatriates were detained for violating residency regulations, while 13 people were taken in for lacking valid identification documents.

Further investigations led to the seizure of 72 vehicles flagged as wanted in connection with previous cases. Police also detained four individuals found in abnormal or suspicious conditions and referred one individual to the Drug Control Department after being caught in possession of narcotics.

The General Department of Rescue Police played a crucial role in supporting the operations. Their efforts resulted in the arrest of 261 individuals wanted in ongoing legal cases. They also issued an additional 5,376 traffic citations, impounded three vehicles, and confiscated 54 vehicles previously reported as wanted.

Rescue teams responded to 122 emergency traffic cases, including a hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian. They also provided assistance to 426 citizens and residents in various situations and intervened in nine public altercations.

Furthermore, 41 individuals were referred to the Drug Control Department for narcotics possession following investigations carried out during the campaign.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring road safety and public security, emphasizing that such campaigns will continue in coordination with relevant departments to uphold the rule of law and safeguard all residents and visitors in Kuwait.
