Over 143,000 residential units vacant nationwide; a slight increase from last year

Capital Governorate hosts 40% of Kuwait’s palaces; Ahmadi leads in villas, Hawalli in apartments and buildings; Mubarak Al-Kabeer tops in ongoing construction projects

According to the latest building statistics issued by the Public Authority for Civil Information covering the first half of this year, Capital Governorate ranked highest in the number of palaces, with 29, representing 40 percent of Kuwait’s total.

Ahmadi Governorate topped the country in villas, recording 34,270 out of 153,004 total villas. Meanwhile, Hawalli Governorate led in residential buildings (5,317), commercial complexes (223), and apartments (146,165 out of 357,854 nationwide).

In terms of eastern-style houses, Jahra came first with 10,447, followed by the Capital (2,606) and Farwaniya (2,463). The Capital Governorate also recorded the most hotels (38 out of 100 nationwide) and shops (55,963 out of 161,230).

As for commercial buildings, Kuwait hosts 5,038, with the Capital alone accounting for 2,019, followed by Farwaniya with 1,267.

There are currently 877 buildings under construction, most of them (421) in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate, while 707 buildings are deemed unsuitable, 70% of which are in the Capital Governorate.

Total housing units in Kuwait reached 796,620, including 176,336 homes, with the largest numbers in Ahmadi (36,068) and Farwaniya (32,276). In contrast, Jahra has the fewest apartments at 7,502.

Finally, 143,725 residential units are currently vacant, accounting for 18.04% of the total, marking a slight increase from last year.
