OpenAI introduces new parental controls for ChatGPT

OpenAI has launched new parental control tools for its ChatGPT chatbot on both web and mobile platforms. The announcement, made on X, stated that these tools allow parents and teens to enhance safety measures by linking accounts.
The new features enable parents to limit exposure to sensitive content, control whether ChatGPT retains conversation history, and decide if these interactions can be used to train OpenAI models.
If the system detects any threats to a teen’s safety, parents can access relevant information and receive notifications if accounts are unlinked, helping safeguard their children.
The move comes after parental concerns and reports linking ChatGPT to cases of suicide, prompting U.S. lawmakers and families to push for stronger protections for minors.
OpenAI, founded in 2015, said ChatGPT now has over 700 million users and is developing an age-prediction system to better enforce security measures on teen accounts.
