Oman reaffirms solidarity with Kuwait, supports its sovereignty over maritime areas
The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its solidarity with the State of Kuwait, expressing full support for Kuwait’s sovereignty over all its maritime zones and water elevations.
In a statement issued by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oman said it is closely following developments related to the lists of coordinates and maps submitted by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, noting that these measures could infringe upon Kuwait’s sovereign rights over its maritime areas and fixed water features.
The ministry stressed the importance of respecting the historical and fraternal relations between Iraq and Kuwait, as well as adhering to the principles of good neighborliness and international law.
It also underscored the need to comply with the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, alongside existing bilateral understandings, agreements, and memoranda of cooperation between the two countries.
Oman called for addressing the matter responsibly and through dialogue, in a manner that preserves regional stability and strengthens constructive relations between the neighboring states.
