US President Donald Trump said Friday that Washington had held “very good talks” regarding Iran, following indirect negotiations between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran in Oman.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while traveling to Mar-a-Lago for the weekend, Trump said, “We had very good talks about Iran, and it seems that Iran is very keen to make a deal.”
The White House also announced that Trump has signed an executive order that could impose tariffs of up to 25 percent on countries that maintain trade ties with Iran, reports Al-Rai daily.

The developments come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, even as diplomatic contacts continue.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi described the discussions with the US delegation in Muscat as taking place in a “good atmosphere.”
In remarks to Omani television after the talks, he said both sides exchanged views and outlined their concerns and interests regarding a potential nuclear agreement, reports Al-Rai daily.
Araqchi thanked Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman for hosting the negotiations and for the support provided by the Sultanate.
Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi characterized the talks as “serious,” saying they helped clarify the positions and approaches of both sides and identified areas that could form the basis for future progress.
According to the Omani News Agency, Al-Busaidi said the negotiations — part of Oman’s ongoing mediation efforts — are expected to resume “in due course,” with outcomes to be reviewed in both Tehran and Washington.
Araqchi led the Iranian delegation, while the US side was represented by Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner.
