Oman embarks on ‘intensive diplomacy’ to de-escalate Israel-Iran tensions

Omani diplomatic efforts are aligned with similar appeals from India and other key actors calling for maximum restraint, as fears grow that the ongoing confrontation between Israel and Iran could trigger a wider regional conflict.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi announced Saturday that he is engaging in intensive diplomatic contacts with counterparts in several “sisterly and friendly” nations in an effort to contain the spiraling tensions in the Middle East, following Israel’s large-scale strikes on Iranian territory.

In remarks reported by the Oman News Agency, Al-Busaidi emphasized the urgent need to halt aggression and deter further escalation through peaceful means, grounded in international law and principles of justice.

His appeal focused on ending the bloodshed, preventing further destruction and casualties, and preserving regional stability and the interests of its people.

Oman’s mediation efforts come amid widening regional concern over Israel’s preemptive military campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, which began early Friday.

The Sultanate, known for its history of quiet back-channel diplomacy, is now taking an active public stance to rally regional and international partners toward de-escalation.
