Official Gazette publishes decision to revoke Kuwaiti Citizenship of 20 people

The official supplement to the Kuwait Al-Youm newspaper, issued today (Wednesday), has published a decision issued by the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality, declaring the revocation of citizenship of 20 individuals.

This decision, which was published in the legal announcements section of the official gazette, is based on the Committee’s mandate to review and verify cases where nationality may have been acquired through fraudulent means, concealment of material facts, or violations of the conditions and procedures stipulated in the Nationality Law, reports Al-Rai daily.

Although the identities and details of the individuals affected were not specified in the public announcement, such decisions typically follow thorough investigations and are issued in accordance with Article 21 or Article 13 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959 concerning Kuwaiti nationality.

These articles provide the legal framework for revocation in cases where nationality was obtained through false statements, forged documents, or where the individual no longer fulfills the legal criteria for holding Kuwaiti citizenship.

The publication of the decision in Kuwait Al-Youm gives it legal effect, as required by Kuwaiti law, and serves as an official notification to the public and the concerned parties.

This move reflects the state’s continued efforts to preserve the integrity of Kuwaiti citizenship, ensure compliance with legal standards, and address any instances where nationality may have been granted unlawfully or under false pretenses.

Authorities have not yet issued further public statements regarding appeals or possible legal recourse for those affected. However, individuals stripped of citizenship have the right to challenge such decisions before the administrative judiciary.
