Nuwaiseeb Customs foil five cigarette smuggling attempts, seize 1,639 packs

The Nuwaiseeb Customs Department thwarted five separate cigarette smuggling attempts over several days, seizing a total of 1,639 packs hidden in vehicles attempting to enter the country.
The seizures were made after customs officers carried out thorough inspections at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing.
In the first incident, 389 cartons of cigarettes of various types, carefully concealed inside a private vehicle were seized. The second seizure involved another vehicle, where officers discovered 77 cartons of cigarettes along with five unlicensed electronic cigarette cartons, hidden in secret compartments inside the vehicle, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The third operation resulted in the confiscation of 429 cartons of cigarettes, also hidden inside a vehicle to evade customs checks. In the fourth case, customs officers found 330 boxes of electronic cigarettes and 20 boxes of regular cigarettes hidden beneath parts of an incoming vehicle, and the fifth seizure saw 389 cartons of cigarettes hidden inside a vehicle’s interior in specially prepared compartments.
All violators were referred to the competent authorities, and the seized items were confiscated in accordance with the Unified Customs Law.
These operations underscore the ongoing vigilance of Nuwaiseeb Customs in preventing illegal smuggling and maintaining border security.
