Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that there are currently “no plans” for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stressing that an agenda for such a summit “is not ready at all.”
US President Donald Trump has suggested bringing the two leaders together as part of efforts to end the war that began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, but uncertainty remains over whether such talks will take place.
Lavrov noted Washington wants both sides to agree on principles including Ukraine’s non-membership in NATO and territorial concessions. He added that Zelenskyy has rejected these conditions outright.
While the Kremlin does not rule out a Putin–Zelensky summit, officials insist it should only occur at the final stage of peace negotiations, with Russia and Ukraine still holding sharply opposing positions.
