NHRB visits correctional facilities during Unified Gulf Week
. . . commends Interior Ministry efforts in inmate rehabilitation programs; highlight humanitarian approach to inmate care

Representatives of the Kuwait Human Rights Bureau carried out field visits to correctional facilities and spring camps designated for inmates, as part of the Bureau’s participation in the Unified Gulf Week held under the slogan “Support us and support them.” The visits fall within the Bureau’s institutional mandate to support and promote human rights principles and to strengthen the values of social responsibility.
The Bureau expressed its appreciation for the distinguished efforts exerted in organizing the program and for the purposeful activities it included.
These featured an awareness-raising theatrical performance written, directed and performed by inmates of correctional institutions, in addition to specialized rehabilitation and training workshops that contributed to raising awareness, building capacities and reinforcing the concepts of support and reform.
The Bureau also praised the pivotal role played by the Ministry of Interior in organizing the event, in constructive cooperation with civil society institutions.
It noted the tangible impact of this collaboration in achieving the program’s objectives and enhancing its positive outcomes for beneficiaries and society at large, describing it as a model that reflects the integration of security, social and humanitarian dimensions.
The Bureau further affirmed its pride in such pioneering national initiatives that strengthen joint institutional and humanitarian action, consolidate human rights principles and preserve human dignity, in line with international standards for the treatment of inmates.
Foremost among these are the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (the Nelson Mandela Rules), which constitute the internationally recognized framework for ensuring respect for inmates’ dignity.
Representing the Kuwait Human Rights Bureau (KHRB) during the Unified Gulf Week activities were Anas Al-Shaheen, Chairman of the Tripartite Committee for Managing the Bureau’s Work; committee member Khalid Al-Armali; Al-Anoud Al-Otaibi, Director of the Specialized Committees Department; Shaima Al-Kandari, Head of the International and Regional Cooperation Department; and Khalid Al-Adsani from the Public Relations and Media Department.
