Fund to organize Martyr Suleiman Al-Shamimari Championship

Under the patronage of the Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Sheikh Firas Al-Malik, the Social Fund for Popular Cafés, in collaboration with the Kuwaiti Heritage Society, orchestrated the Martyr Suleiman Al-Shamimari Ladma Championship at the café’s headquarters in the Sharq region.

Abdulaziz Al-Subaie, Chairman of the Fund’s Board of Directors, told Al-Jarida daily, there are future plans focused on the structural and administrative development of cafés. He disclosed, “There are currently 5 cafés spread across various governorates, with a temporary sixth café in Sabah Al-Ahmad city. “We aim to make it permanent pending municipal council approval to allocate vacant land for its construction,” he said.

Al-Subaie, speaking on the sidelines of the event, emphasized the Café Fund’s commitment to preserving the national identity and authentic Kuwaiti heritage through competitions and festivals that incorporate the heritage aspect. He underscored the significance of ongoing efforts to develop popular cafés, attracting young people, revitalizing Kuwaiti heritage, and safeguarding it from extinction.

Haya Al-Maqroun, a board member of the cafés, highlighted the tournament’s launch in conjunction with the upcoming national and liberation holidays. In collaboration with the Kuwaiti Heritage Society, the Martyr Suleiman Al-Shamimari tournament aimed to strengthen national identity and preserve popular heritage and traditions. Al-Maqroun noted that 43 individuals registered for the tournament, with 30 participating. The final showcased the top three winners who secured the first three places.

Fahd Al-Abduljalil, head of the Kuwaiti Heritage Society, affirmed the society’s collaboration with the Charitable Fund for Cafés to organize the Martyr Al-Shamimari tournament.

He stressed its heritage importance to Kuwaitis, considering it one of the oldest heritage games that has gradually faded over time. Al-Abduljalil emphasized the society’s role in preserving inherited aspects from forefathers, including heritage buildings, handicrafts, popular games, and more.
