New Kuwait International Airport implements ‘Kuwait Accessibility Code’

Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of Family and Childhood Affairs, said today that the new Kuwait International Airport is fully implementing the Kuwait Accessibility Code based on Universal Design Principles, ensuring the creation of an inclusive and safe environment that caters to all segments of society — particularly persons with disabilities, the elderly, and individuals with special needs.
Speaking to KUNA, Dr. Al-Huwailah stated that the project includes supporting facilities such as sensory rooms, which are specially designed to accommodate individuals who may struggle with external stimuli.
These facilities, she said, will benefit groups such as children with autism, people with cognitive impairments, and elderly individuals suffering from conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.
She emphasized that the Public Authority for Disability Persons worked in direct coordination with the Ministry of Public Works, Kuwait Municipality, and the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation, following directives from the political leadership.
This collaborative effort aims to simplify procedures and ensure a seamless and inclusive experience, reflecting Kuwait’s commitment to social justice and universal design in its national development projects.
Dr. Al-Huwailah added that incorporating the national accessibility code into the new airport is a model of institutional integration and a practical expression of the state’s vision for urban development that leaves no one behind.
The Kuwait Accessibility Code is a comprehensive framework of technical and engineering standards adopted in Kuwait. It is designed to ensure that public and private buildings, as well as transportation infrastructure, are accessible and usable by all members of society — especially people with disabilities and the elderly.
