NBK warns against fraudulent impersonators

National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) continues its ongoing support for the banking awareness campaign “Let’s Be Aware”, launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) in cooperation with Kuwaiti banks and the Kuwait Banking Association.

NBK is keen to publish educational and awareness content, which includes video clips, messages and advice across all communication platforms and on the bank’s electronic channels, in addition to re-featuring CBK communication, to raise awareness, and educate people on best ways to avoid falling prey to fraudsters, as reported by Al Jarida.

In this campaign, the bank calls for always verifying the identity of individuals and institutions before sharing sensitive information or conducting any transaction that includes personal or banking data, especially amid the resurgence of methods of fraud, using artificial intelligence and advanced technology.

One of the most common methods used by fraudsters is impersonating bank employees by calling using numbers that appear to be local, and making victims believe that the call is from the bank, to obtain banking information.

In this context, NBK confirms that the bank will not request personal information via phone calls, warning customers against responding to these messages, which are programmed to trick them via identity theft.

The bank advises the necessity of following the advice and instructions it provides through all its digital channels, especially the necessity of dealing with electronic links with caution. Customers are reminded not to save any confidential information, such as ATM card numbers, credit card numbers, or personal identification numbers on the mobile phone, and to not write the secret number on the card or share it with any party, especially the one-time confirmation word (OTP). The bank also recommends the necessity of logging out of the bank’s application or website immediately after completing the transaction.

NBK makes optimum use of its electronic channels to communicate with customers and support CBK efforts to protect customers and the national economy. NBK is a major supporter and partner of all the campaigns and initiatives of the CBK that aim to raise financial and banking awareness.

As a leading financial institution, NBK has been keen to organize various events that contribute to raising community awareness of all issues of interest to the banking sector. It also organizes many training courses for its employees to enhance their expertise in the field of fraud and combating financial crimes.
