NBK alerts against fraudulent ‘Reward Points Redemption’ scams

The National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) continues its support for the “Let’s Be Aware” banking awareness campaign, launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait in collaboration with local banks and the Kuwait Banking Association. This initiative underscores NBK’s commitment to raising community awareness and promoting financial inclusion and culture across all segments of society.

As part of this campaign, NBK emphasizes the importance of educating customers about the risks of fraudulent messages that claim to offer reward points redemption through fake links. These deceptive messages can reach customers through various channels, including phone calls, emails, or even while logging into certain websites.

Scammers often send text messages and emails that appear to come from trusted sources, like government agencies, banks, or telecom companies. These messages typically contain links prompting users to update their information or redeem fake reward points. When users click on these links, they are redirected to a fake page that requests personal and banking details, such as bank account or credit card numbers. The goal is to collect sensitive information and steal users’ financial data, including access to their bank accounts.

The National Bank emphasized the importance of being vigilant, exercising caution, and refraining from clicking on suspicious links or sharing sensitive personal information. It also advised verifying the legitimacy of any messages before taking action to protect against potential scams.

The bank confirmed that it will never request personal information via email, text messages, or phone calls. It warned customers not to respond to such messages, as they are fraudulent attempts designed to steal banking information, sensitive data, or money.

NBK continuously monitors emerging fraud methods, educating customers and users about them through awareness materials shared on its social media platforms. The bank emphasizes the importance of using only trusted links and advises against clicking on links from unknown sources.

The bank leverages its extensive communication capabilities, including its widely followed digital channels, to reach a broad audience, ensuring the widest possible dissemination of the campaign’s messages to the public.

The “Let’s Be Aware” campaign, launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait in cooperation with the Union of Kuwaiti Banks, is the largest of its kind in the region. It focuses on raising banking and financial awareness among customers, covering key topics such as steps to avoid fraud, maximizing the benefits of banking services, promoting saving and investment habits, and other related issues.

NBK is a key supporter and partner in all campaigns and initiatives launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait to raise financial and banking awareness across society. As a leading financial institution in Kuwait and the region, NBK actively organizes events that contribute to community awareness on banking-related matters. Additionally, the bank offers numerous training courses to its employees to enhance their expertise in combating fraud and financial crimes.
