Nazaha approves 16 of 56 protection requests, cites legal criteria for rejections

From April 2023 to March 2024, the General Authority for Combating Corruption received nine protection requests, approving two and rejecting nine

The annual report from the General Authority for Combating Corruption (Nazaha) disclosed that 16 out of 56 protection requests submitted since the authority’s inception have been approved, while the remaining 40 did not meet the criteria outlined in the authority’s law and executive regulations, according to Al Rai newspaper.

The report, which covered the period from the beginning of April 2023 until the end of last March, showed that during this period, ‘the number of requests received for protection amounted to nine (including two legal, administrative, and job protection requests, and seven administrative and job protection requests), while the number of requests that were disposed of amounted to eleven (nine of which were rejected, and two were approved).

As for the reasons behind the rejections, the report stated that ‘the authority rejected nine protection requests due to a lack of connection between the reasons and justifications for providing protection and the role of whistleblowers, or those in similar positions, in combating corruption or in their reports registered with Nazaha or the competent authorities.
