NASA’s Crew-10 astronauts begin journey home after 5 months in space

Four astronauts from the United States, Japan, and Russia departed the International Space Station aboard SpaceX’s Dragon capsule on Friday, heading for a Saturday splashdown off California’s coast after completing a 146-day mission packed with over 200 scientific experiments.

American astronauts Nicole Ayers and Anna McClain, Japan’s Takuya Onishi, and Russia’s Kirill Peskov are carrying sensitive research samples gathered in microgravity — vital to advancing medicine, technology, and Earth sciences.

After a 17.5-hour journey through Earth’s atmosphere, the spacecraft is scheduled to land in the Pacific Ocean at 11:33 a.m. US time, marking a smooth close to NASA’s latest crew rotation mission.

As Crew-10 heads home, former ISS commander Butch Wilmore announced his retirement after a distinguished 25-year NASA career, having flown on four different spacecraft and contributing to the development of Boeing’s Starliner program.
