Musk says will support Trump after stepping down from government role

I look forward to remaining a friend and advisor to the president – Elon Musk

US billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk said he will continue to serve as a “friend and advisor” to U.S. President Donald Trump, following a farewell event in the Oval Office honoring the outgoing head of the Government Efficiency Commission.

During the event, Trump presented a symbolic golden key to the departing director, recognizing their shared commitment to cutting government waste. Speaking to reporters afterward, Musk said, “I look forward to remaining a friend and advisor to the president.”

Musk reiterated his support for ongoing efforts to reduce what he described as “trillion-dollar waste” in the federal system, emphasizing that such measures would benefit American taxpayers.

However, he also expressed frustration with how his role has been portrayed, stating that the agency had begun taking credit for any form of budget reduction, regardless of his involvement.

Musk had previously stepped down from his White House advisory role to refocus on his business ventures, including Tesla, SpaceX, and the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

His official departure from government circles comes in the wake of a recent New York Times report alleging drug use—claims that have sparked public discussion but have not been officially confirmed.
