Multilateral action key to empowering vulnerable groups: Al-Huwailah

Kuwait’s approach grounded in humanitarian and constitutional principles

Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, affirmed Kuwait’s firm belief in the importance of multilateral cooperation to protect and empower vulnerable groups. She praised the United Nations for its central role in coordinating global efforts to uphold the values of justice, equality, and non-discrimination.

Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Tuesday evening after meeting UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed during the 18th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Al-Huwailah emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the UN system.

She highlighted the country’s dedication to implementing international agreements and advancing national policies that promote empowerment and integration for persons with disabilities.

Al-Huwailah noted that the meeting focused on enhancing technical cooperation with UN agencies to support Kuwait’s efforts in fulfilling its obligations under the Convention.

She stressed that Kuwait’s approach is grounded in humanitarian and constitutional principles, and prioritizes legislative reform and inclusive development aligned with global standards.

Kuwait has already made notable strides, she said, by forming a high-level national committee to oversee convention implementation, updating the Kuwait Disability Guide 2025, and expanding inclusive educational and economic initiatives.

Reaffirming Kuwait’s readiness to continue its partnership with the UN, Al-Huwaila underscored the nation’s aspiration to build a more inclusive and sustainable society.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Affairs and a member of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, as well as Ambassador Tariq Al-Bannai, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
