Motorist jailed for three months over reckless driving at 190 kmph

Defendant had 561 previous traffic violations, with accumulated fines exceeding KD25,000

The Ahmadi Misdemeanor Court has sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three months in prison with hard labor for reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit, after he was caught driving at 190 kilometers per hour.

The court, presided over by Judge Mohammed Talal Al-Hajri, handed down the sentence after reviewing the case and the defendant’s extensive traffic record, which included 561 previous violations carrying fines totaling more than KD25,000.

In its ruling, the court stressed that complying with traffic regulations and exercising caution while driving goes beyond simply following the law, as it is essential to protecting lives and ensuring public safety.

The court noted that public roads are a shared right and that reckless driving not only endangers the driver but also puts the lives and property of others at risk. It emphasized that driving carries a responsibility and that the consequences of a traffic accident can be irreversible.

“Whoever is not deterred by a sense of responsibility will be deterred by the rule of law,” the court stated.
