MoJ invites litigants to submit requests to expedite pre-2020 Cassation appeals

The Ministry of Justice has invited litigants and lawyers to submit urgent requests to expedite appeals filed with the Court of Cassation before January 1, 2020.

Requests can be submitted through the Supreme Judicial Council’s website or in person at Office No. 119, 18th floor, New Palace of Justice, starting Sunday, August 3, 2025, reports Al-Jarida daily.

In a statement shared on the Ministry’s account on the “X” platform, President of the Court of Cassation, Counselor Dr. Adel Bouresly, explained that a committee formed by the Supreme Judicial Council has looked into the accumulation of appeals and recommended that additional circuits to address the backlog should be created. This led to the establishment of new appeal panels, including evening sessions.

Following the notable success of these efforts, a request was submitted on March 18, 2024, to increase the number of appeal circuits.

The Civil Service Council has since approved the expansion in coordination with the Ministry of Justice, as part of the Court’s plan for the 2025–2026 judicial season.

The clerks’ department of the court has begun listing old appeals to be reviewed by the expanded circuits. Meanwhile, regular morning sessions of the Court of Cassation will continue handling appeals filed on or after January 1, 2020.
