MOI warns public of fake chalet rental scams, fraudulent payment links

The Ministry of Interior has issued a public warning about increasing incidents of online fraud involving fake chalet rental advertisements and deceptive payment links. Scammers are reportedly using unofficial platforms and personal accounts to lure victims into transferring money for non-existent reservations.

In a circular published on the “Sahel” government services app, the Ministry urged citizens and residents to avoid dealing with unverified accounts or making direct personal transfers for such bookings. They emphasized the importance of using official, trusted sources when renting chalets or making online payments, reports Al-Rai daily.

The Ministry called on the public to report any suspicious activity or potential fraud attempts through the dedicated hotline at 97283939. Authorities are actively monitoring such cases to protect the public and track down perpetrators.

This alert comes amid broader efforts by the Ministry of Interior to combat cybercrime and online fraud. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and share awareness of these deceptive practices to help curb their spread.
