MOI sees significant decline in traffic violations across Kuwait

The updated traffic law has brought about a culture of responsibility and discipline among drivers -- Lieutenant Colonel Bu Hassan

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bu Hassan, Acting Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, confirmed a significant decline in traffic violations across Kuwait since the implementation of the new traffic law.

In a statement to Al-Jarida, Bu Hassan revealed that only 18,000 traffic violations were recorded last week, a dramatic drop compared to previous figures that reached nearly 60,000 violations per week before the new law took effect.

Bu Hassan attributed the decrease to the increased discipline and compliance among road users, affirming that the amendments made by the Ministry of Interior and approved by the political leadership are proving effective. He expressed optimism that traffic violations and road accidents will continue to decline in the coming weeks due to the visible commitment of citizens and residents to the updated regulations.

Meanwhile, the Traffic and Operations Sector, under the supervision of Major General Yousef Al-Khudah, Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic and Operations Affairs, has maintained intensive field campaigns across all governorates. These efforts aim to strengthen control over traffic and security conditions on internal and external roads.

Throughout the past week, security campaigns carried out by the General Traffic Department resulted in the issuance of 18,487 traffic citations. In addition, 48 reckless drivers were arrested, and 32 vehicles along with four motorcycles were impounded. The campaigns also led to the referral of 49 juveniles to the Juvenile Prosecution Office after being caught driving without licenses.

Bu Hassan further noted that traffic patrols handled 2,967 reports last week, which included 1,522 traffic accidents, 1,327 collisions, and 195 cases resulting in injuries. Patrol officers also referred 13 wanted individuals to the appropriate authorities for various offenses such as evasion of arrest, violations of residency laws, and other criminal charges.

Moreover, authorities seized 133 vehicles sought by security and judicial agencies, registered five drug-related cases, detained 30 individuals without identification documents, and apprehended three street vendors.

The sharp decline in violations and the sustained efforts of the Ministry of Interior signal a shift toward improved road safety and compliance, reflecting the effectiveness of the recent legal reforms.
