MoI focused on combating cybercrimes
The Director General of the General Department of Security Relations and Media at the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier Nasser Abu Salib, confirmed the Ministry’s keenness, through the 2024-2025 academic year campaign, to spread awareness in combating electronic extortion and protecting residents from falling prey to such fraudulent operations.
Abu Salib said in a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that students in the primary and intermediate stages are the most targeted group of weak-willed people, as per Al Rai’s report. He added that many parents do not realize the seriousness of some electronic games that allow communication and participation between people, which exposes children to risks such as electronic blackmail, calling on parents to protect their children and monitor their electronic activities continuously.
Abu Salib pointed out that the increase in issues related to electronic games requires serious action from all parties, especially parents, indicating that the Ministry of Interior focused on sending a direct message to parents, emphasizing their primary role in protecting their children from electronic dangers.
He explained that the role of the Ministry lies in arresting the criminals involved in these crimes, while the most important role begins with the family, as parents must monitor the applications and electronic games their children use and understand the negative effects that may result from them.
He added that the Ministry has dealt with many cases during the past three years, including various types of defamation and extortion, especially financial, stressing the importance of raising awareness among parents to take preventive measures and protect their children from falling victim to such problems.
He called on everyone to contact the Cybercrime Combating Department via WhatsApp on the phone number 97283939 or the department’s account on social media platforms ECCCD@ to request assistance.
