MOH reassures Kuwait is equipped with effective vaccines for monkeypox

The Director of the Department of Infection Prevention at the Ministry of Health (MOH), Dr. Ahmed Al-Mutawa said that the health system in Kuwait is well equipped with vaccines and treatments to deal with “monkeypox” and other epidemic developments.

To quote “We reassure everyone that the MOH adopts specialized tests for the disease and has treatments like antivirals that are effective in reducing symptoms in patients”, as reported by q8press.

He stated that the medical system in Kuwait is advanced and able to deal with monkeypox, if needed, pointing out that the Kuwait Centre for Disease Prevention and Control works round the clock to monitor the situation, communicates with the World Health Organization (WHO), and gives regular updates.

He stated that monkeypox is a disease caused by the smallpox virus, which can cause a painful rash, enlarged lymph nodes and high temperature but most people recover from it completely.

He added that anyone may develop monkeypox, which is spread by contact with infected people, and contact with infected animals, pointing out that monkeypox causes signs and symptoms that usually appear within a week. They can appear one to 21 days after exposure to the virus, and symptoms usually last for two to four weeks.

He pointed out that the goal of the treatment of monkeypox is to take care of the rash, measure therapeutic pain and prevent complications. Early and supportive care is important to help with treatment and avoid further problems.

He added that to prevent the spread of monkeypox among others, people with monkeypox should undergo isolation at home, or in the hospital, if necessary, throughout the infection period.

He stated that covering ulcers and wearing a medical muzzle while in the presence of other people may help prevent its spread, and we always recommend high standards of personal hygiene and frequent hand washing, before touching the face and eyes and avoiding contact with those who show signs of fatigue.
