Ministry of Health has launched a national awareness campaign in observance of World Breastfeeding Week, with the goal of encouraging mothers to breastfeed and educating the public on its vital health benefits.
Dr. Hasnaa Ayyad, Director of the Nutrition and Feeding Department in the Public Health Sector, said in a statement on Tuesday that the campaign includes educational exhibitions held at maternity hospitals including Al-Jadeed, Jaber Al-Ahmad, and Al-Adan, reports KUNA.
The events are organized in cooperation with medical institutions from both within and outside the Ministry, as well as civil society organizations.
Dr. Ayyad noted that the campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding for both mother and child. It highlights community support as a key factor for successful breastfeeding practices. Activities include the distribution of educational materials, screening of awareness videos, and on-site events across health centers.
She emphasized that breastfeeding provides infants with complete nutrition and natural immunity, while strengthening the mother-child bond and reducing the mother’s risk of developing chronic illnesses.
Dr. Ayyad urged all health institutions and stakeholders to participate in spreading awareness and promoting healthy practices.
She added that Kuwait aims to raise the rate of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of an infant’s life to 70% by the year 2030, in line with national health strategies and World Health Organization recommendations.
