MOCI maintains highest standards of quality of gold jewellery

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) confirmed that all commercial activities related to gold, jewellery and precious metals are subject to strict supervisory procedures in accordance with the applicable regulations and legislations. Continuous inspection tours in the gold market are held to apply the highest standards of quality and integrity.

The official spokesman for the MOCI, Abdullah Al-Harez, in a press statement, denied on Monday, the authenticity of the news circulated on social media sites about the seizure of quantities of gold carrying forged stamps, explaining that it was an old incident dating back to 2021, and the necessary corrective measures were taken at the time.

Al-Harez added that the joint team between the Commercial Control Department and the Precious Metals Department is continuously conducting inspection tours in the gold market to apply the highest standards of quality and integrity, as well as ensuring the accuracy of the balances used and complying with the requirements required in the sales and purchase processes for consumers.

He called for the consumer to obtain an invoice for the purchase of gold from the shop showing the weight, carat and value in detail, and then one can go to the Precious Metals Department at the MOCI to reconfirm the gold to make sure of what is in the bill.

He stressed that the MOCI will always ensure the protection of consumer rights and achieve transparency in the market to strengthen market control and ensure compliance with laws, as reported by the Arabic daily Al Jarida.
