MOCI bans promoting goods outside of officially designated spaces

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) issued Ministerial Resolution No. 198 of 2024, which prohibits “marketing and promoting goods outside shops and display outlets like booths.” As per the MOCI the aim of the resolution is to “regulate commercial activities and ensure the protection of consumer rights by preventing illegal or unlicensed commercial practices,” as reported by the Arabic daily Al Jarida.

According to the decision, “no promotional activity of products and services is allowed outside the officially designated locations, shops and licensed outlets, and any sales or promotions that don’t take place within designated boundaries are considered a violation of the law and are subject to accountability.”
