Ministry seeks economic, safe operation of electricity network

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is involved in strengthening the Gulf Electricity Interconnection network by adding new power generation units and maintaining existing ones.

  • The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy will participate in operational studies with the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority to ensure the stability of the electrical network and prevent any adverse effects from the exchange of energy quantities among member states.

The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy is conducting several studies regarding consulting services for the operation and protection of the electrical system. They are also studying energy trade with the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority for the upcoming phase.

Informed sources in the ministry stated that a special tender for these works has been prepared and will be issued during the current fiscal year 2024/2025.

They noted that the planned consulting work includes studying commercial energy exchange agreements with the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority, as well as developing and expanding the network and electrical capacity.

This involves participating in future technical aspects of electric power stations, such as adding new power generation units and following up on maintenance programs for those units, to strengthen the electrical network within the Gulf Electricity Interconnection network.

Additionally, they will participate in operational studies with the authority to ensure the stability of the electrical network and prevent any adverse effects from the exchange of energy quantities among member states.

The sources added that the consulting work will enable the ministry to maintain the stability of the electrical network. Additionally, it will monitor malfunctions on the unified Gulf Electricity Interconnection network and prepare necessary reports in cooperation and coordination with the Gulf Interconnection Control Center. The consulting work will also provide the ministry with telemetry and telecommunications devices, as well as their operation and maintenance.

The sources indicated that the aforementioned consulting work will be carried out through the ministry’s Monitoring and Control Sector, which is responsible for such studies.

These studies aim at optimal, economical, and safe operational planning for the electrical network, ensuring uninterrupted power delivery to consumers, and preparing seasonal reports for the maximum expected electrical load in summer and the lowest expected electrical load, including the maximum annual load related to critical areas of the electrical system.

On the other hand, the ministry participated with an official delegation headed by Acting Undersecretary Eng. Maha Al-Asousi at the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in the city of Bali, Republic of Indonesia, from May 18 to 25, under the title “Water for Shared Prosperity.”

The ministry explained in a statement that the forum is being held under the auspices of the Republic of Indonesia and the World Water Council (WWC). Its aim is to implement numerous programs focused on managing water resources wisely. These programs include developing power plants and using water to operate hydroelectric power through sustainable management.

The forum also focuses on discussing water resilience, rationalizing water use, and addressing topics related to climate, water, food, energy, and health. Additionally, it links these discussions to politics, ensuring that the forum’s results have an impact on the policies of participating countries.

It added that the results of scientific discussions will be detailed and integrated into policy, allowing scientific visions to be applied. This approach will enable countries to translate the forum’s outcomes into policies more easily.

There will also be coordination between Indonesia and participating countries to establish a center of excellence from countries in the Asia-Pacific region and other regions. It is expected that at least 30,000 to 50,000 participants from dozens of countries will take part in this event.

The ministry added that Kuwait sought to actively participate in this forum due to its international impact and significant importance in discussing crucial water-related issues.
