Ministry removes outdated telecom poles, cables across key areas

. . . out with the old, in with the fiber, Communications Ministry modernizes network infrastructure

The Telephone Networks Department at the Ministry of Communications is continuing its campaign to remove cables and wooden poles associated with the old aerial communications system, which was previously used in a number of areas before being replaced by modern fiber optic networks.

Informed sources said specialized work teams are dismantling the cable poles after confirming the full completion of the conversion of telephone networks to fiber optics in the targeted areas.

These include Fintas, Mangaf, Fahaheel and Wafra, where the outdated system was done away with several years ago, reports Al-Rai daily.

The sources stressed the importance of removing all unused components from previous projects, noting that this step is essential to prevent infrastructure clutter and eliminate the remnants of obsolete networks.

They explained that the ongoing works reflect the ministry’s commitment to upgrading the communications infrastructure, addressing the negative impact of old systems, and improving the overall urban appearance.

The move also aligns with the state’s direction towards modern, secure networks capable of meeting the demands of the next phase of development.
