Ministry of Social Affairs urges cooperative societies to cut energy consumption

Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi emphasized that all cooperative societies and unions must rationalize electricity consumption, reduce loads, and maintain electrical transformers.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs previously directed that the time between the call to prayer and iqamah in mosques be limited to no more than ten minutes as part of efforts to conserve electricity.

After the Ministry of Islamic Affairs’ decision to limit the time between the call to prayer and iqamah to no more than ten minutes in mosques as part of efforts to conserve electricity, other government agencies have started taking similar measures.

Dr. Khaled Al-Ajmi, the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs, issued a circular to the Union of Cooperative Societies, which was then shared with the societies’ boards of directors, urging them to reduce energy consumption and support electricity conservation, reported Arabic daily Al Jarida.

Al-Ajmi emphasized that, Based on public interest and directives from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy to reduce loads, rationalize electricity consumption, maintain electrical transformers, and cut power to certain areas, all cooperative societies and unions are hereby directed to work on rationalizing electricity consumption across all their operations.
